Survey types

One request, matched to the actual job

A pre-purchase inspection is not the same assignment as a tonnage measurement or commercial-code survey. We keep the scope clear from the beginning.

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Check my survey requirement

Credential — membership, qualification or professional designation

Capability — the right vessel, material, size and survey experience

Appointment — authority from the relevant flag or organisation

Acceptance — confirmation that the resulting report or certificate will be accepted

Estonian survey locations

Plan the survey around Estonia’s coast, islands and seasonal storage

Estonian boats may be afloat for a short Baltic season or stored ashore with systems winterised. Confirm the exact harbour or yard, island travel, launch status and whether the work is private or an official pre-registration or technical survey.

Tallinn & north coast

Tallinn · Pirita · Kakumäe · north-coast harbours

The largest concentration of marina and technical services. Confirm the facility, contractor permission, crane or lift access and sea-trial window.

Saaremaa, Hiiumaa & west coast

Kuressaare · Roomassaare · Kärdla · Haapsalu

Island assignments require ferry or air planning. Confirm winter storage, local haul-out capability and whether the vessel must move for specialist work.

Pärnu & Gulf of Riga

Pärnu · western mainland marinas · Gulf of Riga coast

Season and water conditions affect access. State whether the boat is launched, rigged and fully commissioned for an afloat inspection or trial.

Lake Peipus & inland waters

Tartu region · Lake Peipus · Narva River · inland marinas

Treat inland locations separately from the Baltic coast. Confirm road travel, launching facilities and the intended use of the report.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What information is needed for an Estonia marine survey quote?

Provide the exact harbour, marina or storage yard, vessel particulars, construction, purpose and date. Include island travel, launch and winterisation status, haul-out, sea trial and any official inspection requirement.

Can one surveyor cover Tallinn and the western islands?

Potentially, but Saaremaa and Hiiumaa require separate ferry or flight planning. Travel, accommodation, yard access and the surveyor’s availability must be agreed.

Is a private pre-purchase survey enough for Estonian registration?

Not automatically. The Estonian Transport Administration requires pre-registration inspection or technical evaluation in defined cases and specifies who can issue the relevant inspection report. Confirm the exact craft and process first.

Can a yacht be surveyed during winter storage?

Yes, with limitations. Covers, frost protection, disconnected systems and an unstepped mast can prevent full operation checks, so a later afloat attendance or sea trial may be needed.

Are island travel, launching and sea trial included?

Only when stated in writing. Ferries, accommodation, road travel, crane or lift, launch, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.

Who appoints the marine surveyor?

The client appoints the independent surveyor and agrees scope, fee, timing, limitations and terms directly. Estonia Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.

Can you help with other specialist marine survey assignments?

Potential assignments include winter storage & recommissioning checks, timber, aluminium, steel & composite, engine diagnostics & oil analysis, rig & mast inspections, moisture, ultrasound & corrosion, damage & grounding investigation, sea trials & delivery acceptance, estonian registration & technical surveys. Availability depends on the location, vessel and required specialist capability or formal appointment.
